BBT built this nine-day journey around the late-summer return of coho salmon to the Zhupanova River. Six nights at the private Steelhead riverside residence let guests fish in pairs with local guides, practise fly-casting or watch the migration through an underwater camera, without moving hotels between river days. A planned helicopter excursion to volcanic landscapes and hot springs adds another scale of Kamchatka, while the final afternoon on the Pacific coast brings the programme back to the sea where the salmon’s journey began.

Day 01: Arrival Among Kamchatka’s Volcanoes
Guests settle in Paratunka before the river-focused part of the journey.

Day 02: Helicopter to the Zhupanova
A direct flight reaches a remote fishing river without an overland expedition.
Experience
Approximately 35-minute helicopter journey to Steelhead residence; first introduction to boats, tackle and casting.
Arrangements
Seven separate riverside houses shared by pairs; restaurant, lounge and wood-fired banya; first evening casts.

Day 03: Fishing in Pairs
A local fishing guide adapts each river outing to the ability of two guests.
Experience
Motorboat fishing on selected Zhupanova sections; tackle and techniques for beginners, independent fishing for experienced anglers.
Arrangements
Prepared riverside lunch; option to continue fishing or return early to the residence.

Day 04: Following the Coho Run
A day devoted to watching the returning fish gives context to the previous day’s fishing.
Experience
Naturalist-led observation at permitted spawning stretches; underwater-camera views without entering the spawning ground.
Arrangements
Riverboat travel through runs and quieter channels; optional short fishing session after lunch.

Day 05: Fly-Fishing and Siberian Banya
Technical practice in the morning gives way to recovery beside the river.
Experience
Individual instruction in fly-casting and artificial lures, adapted to different experience levels.
Arrangements
Wood-fired Russian banya with trained bath masters, herbal tea and an evening meal at the residence.

Day 06: Volcanoes and Thermal Springs
A planned helicopter day opens a different view of Kamchatka between the river outings.
Experience
Flight towards the Klyuchevskaya volcano group, an agreed landing for a short walk, and the Kizimen area’s natural hot springs, subject to aviation access.
Arrangements
Prepared changing area, hot drinks and lunch; return flight to the Zhupanova residence.

Day 07: Your River, Your Pace
The final river day allows guests to return to the activity they found most rewarding.
Experience
Choice of guided fishing, further fly-casting tuition, coho observation or remaining at the residence.

Private chef-prepared outdoor dinner on the riverbank; review of images and underwater footage.

Day 08: The Pacific Black-Sand Coast
The journey returns to the ocean after six nights in the river landscape.
Experience
Flight back to Paratunka; outing to Khalaktyrsky Beach for a walk or optional surf lesson with an instructor.
Arrangements
Rest area prepared by the team; return to Kamchatka Chalet 5★ and farewell dinner.
