Kuril Lake: Bears and the Sockeye Run
A late-summer wildlife journey from the Pacific to southern Kamchatka
About
BBT built this journey around the sockeye salmon run into Kuril Lake and the bears that gather along its rivers. Five nights in a private lakeside residence let guests return to observation sites at different hours with wildlife specialists and reserve inspectors, rather than depend on a single outing. A private ocean excursion begins the journey; helicopter flights over volcanic country and time in natural hot water bring the expedition back towards the Pacific. Heated individual houses, prepared viewing positions and shared meals support the days outdoors.
